It’s called the SPIN remote, and they’re billing it as “the simplest, most personal remote ever”. Crestron have announced a new handheld remote control, the TSR-302. The TSR-302 is a slim and supposedly durable hybrid remote, featuring a large 2.8” capacitive touchscreen LCD display, along with a wide range of backlit hard buttons including full menu, transport and numeric keypad functions. Other features include 2.4GHz RF, Wifi, built-in microphone and speaker, and inductive charging station. Read more...

With my house buried under a thick blanket of snow and the warmth of summer but a distant memory, my thoughts turn to the joys of home automation... and our ongoing series of CEDIA 2013 videos! Today I’m very pleased to present three new reports covering DemoPad, Crestron, and Savant Systems!
First, Mike Cain presents viewers with a run-through of the DemoPad iOS-based home control software, and then introduces their first hardware product: the brand new CENTRO 8 Control Processor. Next, come with Jeff Singer as he shows off Crestron’s new wireless home automation capabilities, a home control app made for Samsung Smart TVs, plus the TSW series of in-wall touchscreen controls ranging in size from 5" through 10". Logitech may have revealed earlier this year that they’re looking to sell off the Harmony line, but that apparently doesn’t mean they’re content to rest on their laurels in the meanwhile. Some users have noted a recent unavailability of all but the newest Harmony remotes in retail stores, and attributed that to Logitech winding down production. Nope! Pro Control has just announced the general availability of their iPro.8 model RF remote control, an inexpensive hard buttoned "companion" remote for systems where Apple iPhone or iPad devices are used as the primary touchscreen interface. The iPro.8 offers users quick, tactile-based control over movies, volume and channel surfing, similar to what they’re used to with regular OEM remotes, but in a device that integrates perfectly with the company’s back-end ProLink processors. At CEDIA 2012, URC revealed a brand new gyroscopic-based addition to their network-enabled Total Control lineup. The minimalist TRG-100 and advanced TRG-200 handheld remote controls feature sleek, ergonomic designs, and mesh with the MRX-20 Advanced Network System Controller – offering a point-and-click-style motion-based control over a snazzy graphical on-screen interface that URC have dubbed “uMotion”.
