Just when we were coming to grips with the idea that the Philips Pronto was good and truly gone, comes a press release from Philips that digs up the old name again. Sing praise: the Pronto is back!

Well... sort of. The new Pronto has precious little to do with the advanced Pronto remote controls we’re all familiar with, and is more Philips capitalizing on a well-known (and respected) brand. In this situation, Philips has teamed up with Peel for an iPhone-based remote control system that utilizes the Peel Smart Remote App, paired with a small Bluetooth-based basestation, dubbed the “Pronto”, which features a central IR blaster and an “IR extension cable” for home theater control. I’ve just received the news - after being on the market for just over 12 years and creating the entire customizable touchscreen universal remote control genre, Philips has decided to “divest” their activities and end the business before the end of the year. Read more...

Philips has announced the latest version of their PC programming software for their Pronto line of remotes, PronoEdit Professional 3.0. It includes support for the new in-wall TSW9500 panel, a Master Project View for multiple control panels in a single configuration and much more. Read more...

Philips has revealed its first true in-wall Pronto display, the TSW9500. Compared to the existing (and larger) TSU9800 standalone model with its wall-mount option, or the TSU9600 that can be wall-mounted through the use of an optional dock, the TSW9500 has been purpose-designed to be an in-wall control panel. Philips has just released a full suite of upgrades to their lineup of Pronto Professional color control panels. The star of the show is a major enhancement to all WiFi models with the addition of WPA2 encryption – previously limited to ordinary WEP. Other enhancements include several interface improvements to PEP2, new ProntoScript libaries, a ProntoScript debugger, and more. Read more...

Philips has released complete details for their upcoming universal remote control, the Pronto TSU9300. Featuring a 2.8" QVGA color touchscreen display, rechargeable battery, docking station and WiFi networking, the TSU9300 is like a smaller version of the TSU9400! Read more...
