Philips has released complete details for their upcoming Pronto TSU9300 color touchscreen remote control. Some might initially think of it as an upscale TSU9200 (which is a lower end model with more limited customization than the Professional series), but in reality the TSU9300 is more like a downsized and slightly simplified TSU9400.

You get a 2.8” flush mounted color touchscreen with 240x320 resolution and 65 thousand colors, 802.11g WiFi networking for control over music servers, lighting and MCE systems, a rechargeable lithium polymer battery and docking station, and full computer programmability via a USB 2.0 interface. On the hard button side there’s 23 keys, including 5 soft buttons, page up/down and menu cursor control, plus a rotary wheel for other functions. It also integrates with the two existing Pronto extenders, the RFX9400 and RFX9600.

Basically, it’s a TSU9400 with a smaller screen and no support for ProntoScript (which likely explains the lack of the additional “Professional” moniker). It should be perfect for anyone looking for an advanced color touchscreen universal remote – and doesn’t need the sophisticated programming capabilities offered by ProntoScript.

The TSU9300 should be available in May, with the price set at $799 USD MSRP.
