News on the Sony RM-IA10K

RC News Story
Modified CCF: Quite a few changes to my Pronto CCF file, but most of them can only be found in the gallery. First, everything that should be has been grouped together in the gallery for easy one-click moving. This includes menu controls, favorite channel tabs and all transports. Next, I've created new sizes of my square buttons, a wider rounded button and a menu control without the "OK" button in the middle.

I've actually redone my channel tab templates - they're now better shaped to hold text and completely fill the width of the screen. In addition to the previous 6 and 7 tab dual-row styles, you'll now find a new 8-tab design plus 3 and 4 tab single row versions. I've added to my 10-button DVD transport controls with new 6 and 8 button versions that could be used for CD or LD players. My VCR jog/shuttle controls have been cleaned up and enlarged a bit for easier use.

Still more changes? Yup - I've got a completely new VCR transport control. There are two versions, one with 5 buttons and one with 6 buttons. Both feature large hard-to-miss fast forward and rewind buttons and some, well, interesting styling. Be sure to let me know what you think of all these changes - again, most of these new buttons can only be found in the gallery file.

Pronto web site: I've been informed that a brand new web site for the Pronto will be fully unveiled by Philips on or near June 1st. It should feature some cool CCF files, a PDF version of the Pronto's manual and lots more! News as it comes.

New DVD review: I've posted my review of Star Trek V: The Final Frontier. I'll be posting more reviews as soon as I find time to watch a few discs - such as one of Arnold Schwarzenegger's best action flicks, True Lies, and the Michael Douglas/Kathleen Turner/Danny DeVito adventures Romancing the Stone and The Jewel of the Nile.

New remotes: I've been promised a review unit of Jensen's best remote control model, the SC-595, which can control 10 devices and features over 450 built-in device codes. It features RF for use around the house and a really nice ergonomic button layout. It has a MSRP of $60.

Last but not least, I've been in contact with Sony regarding an interesting remote pointed out to me by Bill Engels (thanks Bill!), the Sony RM-IA10K - currently available in Japan. Some further research shows it comes with certain Sony midi-systems and appears similar to the remote shipped with the 50ES receiver/9000ES preamp, but is apparantly sold separately as well. I'm still waiting to hear back from Sony on this one, so I'll keep everyone posted.

-- Late Update --
A new system CCF file from Andy Schmidt is available.
