Well, here it is - the downloadable firmware update program for all Philips Pronto TSU2000 owners! If you've managed to incapacitate your remote control by flashing the wrong firmware, you'll finally be able to easily transform your NASA-approved paperweight into its former full-function remote control status with the new utility from Philips. This upgrade is a stand-alone application and does not require you to start ProntoEdit first.

The firmware version included is the same as most shipping TSU2000's - APP v5.1 and SYS v4.6. Earlier production units included APP v5.0, so if you have one of those you may want to consider upgrading (though my policy these days is "don't fix what ain't broke"). Otherwise, this upgrade is of no benefit to those with properly functional Prontos as nothing is new or improved. The FAQ has also been updated with this information.

And now, the standard warning: this firmware is only for the Pronto TSU2000. It cannot be flashed to TS-1000, RU890, RU940, RC5000 or RC5000i remote controls. Don't even try, it simply won't work. The database is an integral part of the TSU2000 and cannot be deleted or flashed to other remotes. For now, this is all that is available: a downloadable version ProntoEdit 2.0 will probably not be released for some weeks yet.

Speaking of remotes with loads of memory...
Wondering what you should do with all that space? Well, if you feel you're utilizing your Pronto TSU2000, RU940 or Marantz RC5000i to less than its full capabilities, I've got a neat little space waster for you: a puzzle game. It's called Galaxy, and many of you will probably be familiar with the whole concept. You must change the three by three grid from one planet in the center surrounded by black holes, to the reverse: one black hole surrounded by planets.

This is the biggest Pronto game to date, encompassing over 500 panels, 2,800 buttons and 5,300 frames. Its less-than-svelte (yet still optimized) profile occupies 37% of all memory on a TSU2000 and 26% on an RU940 or RC5000i. Chances are you've got that much left, so enjoy! Incidentally, it's impossible for this game to physically fit on a TS-1000, RU890 or original RC5000. I had actually begun working on this well over a year ago, but once I calculated that it wouldn't fit on any existing remote I dropped it (creating it just for the emulator seemed a waste of time). A little while ago I stumbled upon the file and decided that with all these 2mb remotes out there, it was about time I finished it...
