Sting: Ten Summoner's Tales (DTS) | Location: | St. Augustine In Hell |
Features: | Moving voice between speakers | Description: | While not a movie, this disc has some great effects with discrete channels. In St. Augustine In Hell, a voice detailing all the kinds of people in hell moves from speaker to speaker in a seemingly random manner. Throw in the more subtle surround effects elesewhere in the disc and you've got a very effective demo of DTS.

Strange Days | Location: | Chapter 1 |
Features: | Surround Separation | Description: | The film starts with a different voice from every speaker. A great way to check if you've got channel bleed as well as a great demo scene for someone who hasn't experienced Dolby Digital.

Styx: Return To Paradise | Location: | All Songs |
Features: | DD 5.1 and DDS | Description: | They give you the option of Dolby Digital stereo and DD 5.1... Pick 5.1 for one of those "I was THERE, man" experiences. Incredibly good if you're a Styx nut.

Tarzan: Collector's Edition | Location: | Chapter 1 |
Features: | Superior Sound & Video Quality | Description: | I know that a lot of people don't care for the movie or the story, but.. The opening scene of this DVD has, in my opinion, the best picture and sound quality of any in my collection (which includes most of those reviewed here). The sound is extremely clear and powerful, and the video is virutally flawless, with no noticable artifacts.

Terminator 2: Judgement Day (Ultimate version) | Location: | Opening Credits, Chapters 1-3 |
Features: | best video, sound to date | Description: | In comparison to Pro Logic Surround (*laff*), or even DD 5.1, the DTS/ES mix on this disc is unbelievable. I was too young to see this movie in the theater when it came out, so i was relegated to renting it on VHS and watching it on a 20" tv with a mono speaker. I did not believe how well it comes to life with even a "mid-fi" THX system (Rotel pre/amps through Paradigm Reference speakers). T2: Ultimate is currently the "best" dvd out there to date (12/6/2000) in terms of transfer quality and features. If you don't own it, you should. If you have the first release of T2, buy this one and sell the old one (or give it away for Christmas :)
