To configure a preset code: Press [S]. All Component Select buttons will flash. Press the button you want to configure. Enter in the three-digit component code from the code table, followed by [ENT].

Using the code search function: Press [S]. All Component Select buttons will flash. Press the button you want to configure. Press [CH+] or [CH-] and [POWER] in turn until the component turns on or off, then press [ENT] to save.

To learn signals on user buttons: Press and hold [S] until the green indicator lights. All Component Select buttons will flash. Select the component you would like to learn a signal to, then select the button you want to learn on. Aim the RM-VL900 and original remote head to head and press and hold the original button until the green indicator and Component button light up again. If a signal has already been programmed on a button the green indicator will flash twice; you must first reset the button. Note that you cannot teach to double-buttons, such as [REC] + [PLAY], [INPUT] + [1], etc.

To clear a learned signal from a user button: Press and hold [S] until the green indicator lights. All Component Select buttons will flash. While holding the desired Component Select button, press the button you want to clear.

To learn signals on System Control buttons: Instead of a macro a System Control button may hold a single learned command. Press and hold [S] until the green indicator lights. All Component Select buttons will flash. Select the System Control button you want to learn on. If a macro or signal has already been programmed on a button the green indicator will flash twice; you must first reset the button. Aim the RM-VL900 and original remote head to head and press and hold the original button until the green indicator light up again.

To clear a learned signal from a System Control button: While holding [S], press the System Control button you want to clear.

To learn signals on Component Select buttons: Note that a learned signal will take precedence over a macro. Press and hold [S] until the green indicator lights. All Component Select buttons will flash. Press and hold the Component Select button you want to learn on for three signals until all component buttons light up. When you release the component button the green indicator will begin blinking rapidly. If a signal has already been programmed on a button the green indicator will flash twice; you must first reset the button. Aim the RM-VL900 and original remote head to head and press and hold the original button until all component buttons light up again.

To clear a learned signal from a Component Select button: While holding [S], press the Component Select button you want to clear.

To assign other components to the Component Select buttons: Press [S]. All Component Select buttons will flash. Press the Component button you want to change. While holding [PLAY], press the number button (listed blow) that corresponds to the device you want to assign. Both the original Component button and the button corresponding to the new assignment will light. If the green indicator flashes twice you must first remove all learned signals.

To reset all functions for a Component: Press and hold [S] until the green indicator lights. All Component Select buttons will flash. While holding [STOP], press the desired Component Select button.

To program a macro to the System Control buttons: Press [S]. All Component Select buttons will flash. Press the System Control button you want to record the macro on. If the green indicator flashes twice the button already holds a macro or learned signal and must first be reset. Press the first Component button that contains the functions you want to record, then navigate the remote. When you have finished recording the macro, press [S] to finish.

To clear a macro from a System Control button: While holding [S], press the System Control button you want to clear. This will also restore System Control 1 or 3 back to their default settings.

To program a macro to the Component Select buttons: Press [S]. All Component Select buttons will flash. Press and hold the desired Component Select button for three seconds. The selected Component button lights and all others flash rapidly. If the green indicator blinks twice the button already holds a macro or learned signal and must first be reset. Press the first Component button that contains the functions you want to record, then navigate the remote. When you have finished recording the macro press [S] to finish. The macro will only play when you hold the Component Select button down for more than two seconds. If the button also holds a learned signal, it will overwrite the macro and must be cleared before the macro will work.

To clear a macro from a Component Select button: While holding [S], press the Component Select button you want to clear.

To configure the delay between macro steps: Press [S]. All Component Select buttons will flash. While holding the System Control or Component Select button you want to configure, press one of the number buttons from 1 through 4. 1=127ms (default), 2=408ms, 3=708ms, 4=974ms.

To program a favorite channel macro: Press and hold [S] until the green indicator lights. While holding [REC], press the desired Component Select button ([TV] or [CBL/SAT]). The green indicator and selected Component button will flash. While holding the desired Macro key button ([RW], [PLAY], [FF], [REC], [STOP] or [PAUSE]), press up to four buttons on the keypad in order. You cannot record a macro over a button that already has a learned signal.

To clear all favorite channel macros for a Component: Press and hold [S] until the green indicator lights. While holding [STOP], press the desired Component button to clear.

Adding the Power On command to Component Select buttons for Sony devices: Press [S]. All Component Select buttons will flash. While holding [POWER], press the desired Component Select button. While holding [POWER], buttons that have been configured to transmit the Power On function will light up. This function will not operate if a button has a learned signal or macro already assigned, and is only available to components configured to control Sony devices.

To configure the audio passthrough: By default the RM-VL900 controls the TV’s volume for the TV, VCR, CBL/SAT and DVD buttons, and the receiver’s for CD, MD, Tape and Amp. To change this setting, press [S]. All Component Select buttons will flash. While holding the [MUTING] button, press [VOL+] to control the amplifier’s volume under all components, or [VOL-] for the TV/amp combination. The Component Select buttons will light up indicating which devices are being controlled by the amplifier, either all or only audio.

To copy the settings of a Component Select button to another: Press [S]. All Component Select buttons will flash. Press and hold the Component Select button you want to copy settings to. The selected Component button lights up and all other buttons flash rapidly. While continuing to hold that Component button, press the Component button you want to copy the configuration from.

To transfer all data between two remotes: Place the VL-900 head-to-head with another remote displaying the [T] logo. Press and hold [S] until the green indicator lights. While holding [MENU UP], press the number [1] button. The green indicator flashes and all Component Select buttons light. Press [ENT] to start data transfer. As data is transferred, the corresponding Component Select buttons turn off one by one. If the green indicator flashes five times the transfer has failed and you may try again by pressing [ENT].

To receive all data from another remote: Place the VL-900 head-to-head with another remote displaying the [T] logo. Press and hold [S] until the green indicator lights. While holding [MENU DOWN], press the number [1] button. The green indicator flashes and all Component Select buttons go dark. Press [ENT] to start receiving data. As data is transferred, the corresponding Component Select buttons light up one by one. If the green indicator flashes five times the transfer has failed and you may try again by pressing [ENT].

To transfer a Component Select button between two remotes: Place the VL-900 head-to-head with another remote displaying the [T] logo. Press and hold [S] until the green indicator lights. While holding [UP], press the Component Select button you want to transfer. The green indicator flashes and the selected Component button lights up. Press [ENT] to start data transfer. If the green indicator flashes five times the transfer has failed and you may try again by pressing [ENT].

To receive data for a Component from another remote: Place the VL-900 head-to-head with another remote displaying the [T] logo. Press and hold [S] until the green indicator lights up. While holding [DOWN], press the Component Select button you want to receive to. The green indicator flashes and the Component button goes dark. Press [ENT] to start receiving data. If the green indicator flashes five times the transfer has failed and you may try again by pressing [ENT].

To lock the remote: Press [POWER], [MUTING] and [RECALL] at the same time. The green indicator lights up when you press these buttons and turns off when you release them. When the remote is locked and a function key is pressed all Component Select buttons flash twice.

To unlock the remote: Press [POWER], [MUTING] and [RECALL] at the same time. The green indicator flashes twice and the Hold function is disabled.

To reset the entire remote to factory settings: Press [POWER], [TV/VIDEO] and [VOL-] until the remote reacts as follows: The green indicator and all Component Select buttons light up; then the Component buttons turn off one by one, followed by the green indicator. The remote is now restored to its default settings.
