Review: | Thanks to this forum for reviewing this remote. I needed a learning remote that was inexpensive, but yet versatile. When I read the review, I was sort of skeptical because a lot of times reviews can be misleading. In any event, I took the plunge. I figured $35 wasn’t going to break me. When I first got it, the instructions were rather weak, but in time once you figure it out, you are good to go. It took me a couple of hours to set up the majority of my remotes. What took the longest was deciding what keys I wanted to use for each command. The big test was the so-called “Micro” command. For those of you with a 4DTV, you know what I am getting at. The famous Options 6,4,4, Enter,0. Basically, this function is used for surfing the satellites for programming. I had to do it a couple of times, but sure enough the function works. I am able to assign 5 keys to one key on this remote. I couldn’t get the final key in, but maybe I’m not quick enough ;) Another great function is the ability to combine several units to one device. For instance, I use the remote for two TV’s. Since I use the VCR in another room, if I use the volume keys it will default back to the original TV. So, I ask the remote to learn the volume commands from the other room in the VCR command. Another example… Take the PIP button. The VCR has no function for this button. I can tell the remote to make that button a TV function such as Power. In any event, you can’t go wrong with this remote. I find myself carrying it around the house all the time.
A few notes… -If you buy this remote, make sure you make a copy of the green sheet and write in all the commands you tell the remote. When you program, you will forget where you assigned commands. It’s just a helpful tip. -If you would like the remote to use a continuous press of the key (such as channel up while holding down the key), you have to let the remote learn the full memory of that key. You have to hold down the key until the remote’s light flashes. If you don’t do this, when you use the remote it will only step once. It will respond like tapping a key. -It seems that if you do not use the remote for Sony devices, the pre-set codes for other devices seem to be somewhat limited. You will probably end up using the learning function to get to menus and stuff.
You will enjoy this remote. Good luck.
