Let me preface my reply here by stating that I'm just talking out my *insert posterior here*, because I want a free remote. :-) That being said, please see my educated *cough* response below.

If you have not done so already I would rule out the issue being software related as far as the file itself you are trying to download, CCP and the computer being used. Despite not having an issue with the other remotes it can't hurt to say you've tried everything. I'd fully uninstall CCP, then performing a fresh install and trying my luck again. I'd also try a different computer. Would suggest as well perhaps seeing if the stand-alone editor can bring the remote back to life as I recently read a post where going back to the stand-alone editor corrected the issue per getting stuck on that "Loading system files..." screen. Below are the steps required, so that a MX-880 used with CCP can go back to working with its stand-alone editor. Grabbed the below from another post I read recently. I'd imagine the same should be true for the MX-980, but I can't say for sure.

1. Remove battery from the remote
2. Press & Hold the "Power On & Mute" at the same time
3. Insert the battery - Remote will power up
4. Release the buttons - remote will display a message on the screen that says "unable to find system files - please download using software.."
5. Connect remote to standalone editor & download a blank config
6. Re-download your file
