CardonWare Announces UltraMote Universal Remote Software for Pocket PC
First Remote Software That Lets Users Define the Look and Feel of
Their Consumer Remote Controls and Combine Them in a PDA
LAS VEGAS--Jan. 8, 2002--
UltraMote(TM) universal remote software for Pocket PCs rolled out today here at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES).
UltraMote universal remote software initially will support the Compaq iPAQ H3600 and H3700 series, which is the most popular Pocket PC series with more than 1 million units sold.
UltraMote combines the functions of audio and video device remote controls into a single program that operates via the iPAQ's built-in infrared port. Uniquely, UltraMote lets users define the look and feel of the application or choose from pre-set templates. The software supports most brands of televisions, VCRs, DVDs, stereo receivers and home automation systems.
UltraMote is set up directly on the handheld device and doesn't require being docked to a PC.
"Many households today have a confusing and redundant array of look-alike remote controls," noted Jim Kearns, founder and president of Phoenix-based CardonWare(TM), creator of UltraMote.
"UltraMote ends remote clutter by combining the functions of these remotes onto a single device with rich graphics and a high level of programmability. And users get even more utility from their Pocket PCs."
Users can add their own graphics or symbols to create a unique graphical appearance for various activities, or they can use the software's pre-defined screen graphics. Screens are flexible enough to allow users, for example, to set up a screen for their kids, which would let them select specific TV stations only.
Activities, such as starting a DVD movie, can be accessed through the iPAQ's touch screen. Two screens are available for each device or set of activities. Up to 10 device screens can be programmed for each of up to 10 different locations and/or users. One screen lets users input their own text-to-label commands unique to their device set-up.
UltraMote uses iPAQ's hardware buttons for dedicated functions, allowing easy navigation through device screens and quick access to commonly used commands, such as "mute" and volume control, regardless of which device screen is displayed. Audio and visual cues indicate that the remote software is performing a remote command. Users can customize the audio cues by using one provided or adding their own.
UltraMote is available now for the Compaq iPAQ H3600 and H3700 series using either Microsoft Pocket PC 2000 or Pocket PC 2002. UltraMote will be available for other Pocket PCs based upon the Intel StrongArm processor in coming months.
UltraMote remote control software is available at the UltraMote Web site, www.ultramote.com. Pricing is $20 U.S., and there is a free 14-day trial period available, for users to ensure compatibility with their audio/visual equipment. The Web site also provides additional information, technical support and suggestions for set-up and usage.
