Weaknesses: Not a ton of pre-programmed codes. Pre-programed DVD layout is not great. Review: I was hoping for a do-it-all remote for under a hundred dollars. I did a lot of research and this baby fits the bill! Excellent key layout, especially for TiVo. It took about 30 mins to teach it all my components, but a lot of time remapping keys as I adjusted to a single remote. I wanted a remote that fit in one hand and was mostly hard keys. Strengths: Price, feel, macro capability, not too complicated Weaknesses: Setup tweaking is time consuming, macro buttons occasionally don't "take" the first time Review: After using this for a few weeks, I believe that I've finally found the perfect remote. The price is right. It has nice keys and a quality feel about it, with a good layout, and the keys aren't too close together. I owned the MX-500 before this and found it too much of a pain to use the menus... I like hard buttons that I can 'teach' at will and support for just enough macros to switch between devices. Learning capability is available for all the keys. It supports macros for the on and off buttons, which allows you to shut off everything by pushing a button. All of the device controls at the top can be macro'd also, so it makes switching between controls very easy. You can also punch through all of the different devices so that, for example, your tuner up/down volume buttons work everywhere. Occasionally when you hit a macro button it doesn't do all the commands that you tell it to (and yes I tried all kinds of pauses), but it's a very minor annoyance to just press the button again. Also, while 95% of the initial setup took about 10 minutes, it took several hours of messing around to tweak it just right. But that has been the case w/just about every remote I've ever owned. In short, I finally feel like I have control over my system. I love this unit. Quality: Features: Value:

Review 1 made on Monday June 7, 2004 at 5:55 PM. Strengths: The programming guide is well thought out and easy to understand. The precoded controls are excellent with a wide variety of brands. The macro capabilities are more than adequate for most hometheater applications. The remote has a nice feel and the buttons are fairly intuitive almost second nature after using a few times. Weaknesses: Even with its extensive book of codes it has some Issues with complete control of certain brands such as Yamaha receivers tried all available and get at most 90% control over some devices. Review: Overall this is a fantastic remote if you are looking for control of your hometheater system. It has a nice ergonomic button layout, backlight, and is customizable. This remote is a great solution for people who want to be able to eliminate remote clutter and have real control with one remote. Quality: Features: Value:
