Strengths:Big LCD Screen, Learns easily, Large list of manufacturer codes included, Powerful infrared, Auto-on light, Many macros and channel macros available
Weaknesses:"Hard Buttons" Don't light up, Button positions not very intuitive, Couldn't get a code to work for my Yamaha receiver
Review:The Sony RM-AV3000 is a great remote. Once programed, the remote easily operates all of your home theater components. The large size of the LCD screen makes it easy to find and press any label. I was able to function most of my components by entering the codes into the remote, but for some reason, none of the codes provided for Yamaha would operate my RX-V800. But, do to how easy it is to have the sony remote learn new functions, this problem was solved in a matter of minutes.

A few downsides to the remote are the vulnerability of the LCD to fingerprints, and the fact that due to its large size, it can sometimes be awkward to hold in one hand (but it lease you'll never lose it)

For those complaining about the manual, I'm not quite sure what the big deal is. I agree that it is not the most clearly written manual I've ever read, but it's not so bad as to be a reason to downgrade the rating. The manual provides step-by-step instructions on how to program and operate every feature, includes a table of contents so you can easily find a specific section or feature, and has a comprehensive troubleshooting guide. I figure, if you can read English, and have just a little intelligence, you'll have absolutely no problem learning how to operate and program the remote. It took me just over 25 minutes to have the every one of my components programmed (TV, STB, DVD, Receiver, Amplifier, CD player, and VCR) and "taught" it many learned commands as well. Programing 3 comprehensive macros took all of 5 minutes.

My point is, don't let people's bashing of the manual impact your decision on whether or not you buy this remote. It really isn't bad at all.

If you don't like this remote for any of the other reasons listed in the reviews, then by all means, take a good look at your other options.

For $100, I think this remote is really a steal, and I have never once regretted my purchase.

Strengths:Lots of potential. Nice packaging.
Weaknesses:No product support from Sony. Display contrast poor. Manual useless.
Review:Do not expect to get any help from Sony. You will not be able to penetrate the Sony layer and speak to anyone knowledgeable about this product. I spent almost a whole day trying to get support. There is no help on their website.

Strengths:- When you touch the LCD screen anywhere, the remote turns on (unlike the earlier version).
- You can program in your own titles of some functions
- Easy to use, easy to access Macro keys
Weaknesses:- Every now and then, remote gets stuck in transmit mode. Can't do anything, none of the functions will work at that point. Have to pull out batteries and re-insert (and then reprogram the time).
- Price is pretty high
Review:This remote is far superior to the earlier Sony version.
Just being able to activate it by hitting the LCD screen is a big bonus in itself. No more fumbling in the dark for the 'on' button.
I wish you could program more names of functions. Four at the bottom is just not enough (and some of the names you can't change just don't make any sense).

Overall, if you got to have the perfect remote, you should consider this one. It comes pretty close.

Strengths:Macro capability is awesome!
Progamable keys, key xfer ae great!
Weaknesses:I spent an incredible amount of effort programming my remote, changing, buttons, specifying funtions, the whole nine! All of a sudden, without beig an avid couch potatoe my macros, keys, custo definition have all poofed, with the simple loss of battery power!?
Review:The strong points of the AV3000, which I have read about in earlier versions, is the ability to program all AV equipment _and_ x10 automated actions with the simple touch of a button!

One must be pretty conscious though! If you are in listening mode, which requires no monitor/tv, you'll have to hit the buttons as of you are just going to watch TV - with a simplet power on. Call me goofy, but i have hit the macro sequence many times and everythings on except the tv or vice versa. I'll get aroung this hurdel slightly befre retirement.

Overall, if you have any more than fours thins to power on or controll by remote in your house this is the answer. I am getting ready to tote it throughtout the house morning, noon and nite! And I even have planned multiple modes for times of day and entertain mode. Boy, this is great!

Strengths:Easy to program functions. Macros are terrific! Throw out 6 other remotes!!! (Well..... put them in a bottom drawer, anway.)
Weaknesses:Screen is somewhat difficult to see in bright daylight. Unit is a bit large.
Review:This remote is pretty amazing! The command learning procedure is really quite simple. We had 5 remotes (TV, Cable Box, Surround Receiver, DVD Player and VCR ) programmed in 15-20 minutes. Even did a macro to turn on the cable/tv/surround in one function. While the manual could be more helpful, we didn't find it anywhere near as difficult as others seem to have.

It does take a while to get used to having to switch modes to perform specific functions. You have to remember that this isn't just one single remote, it's really several different remotes accessible via the mode keys.

Strengths:Easy to program, I programmed the remote without reading alot in the manual. Will repleace the 5 remotes i recently had to use. Battery life is excellent, i just replaced the batteries after 6 months.
Weaknesses:Manual could be written more clearly. Needs more step by step instructions instead of assuming the consumer already knows the program functions.
Review:Once i programmed the first remote i had no problem getting the rest entered into the sony. The manual is not the best in the world, In my profession i have to read and understand technical manuals, this manual is hard to understand. Needs to be re-written for the average consumer.

Strengths:LCD screen easy to read, Controls all my devices, Powerful Learning function,
Weaknesses:Hard to comprehend manual
Review:As I stated before in my previous review of the RCA RCU1000B I had returned it to buy the RM-AV3000. It was the best decision I've ever made.

The AV3000 Is a great remote the presets work well even though they a lacking some functions. But with the learning function it is easy to program any function that is not preset even if it has no preset.

The only problum that I had was my Surround Reciver did not come preset with Rear or Center speaker control.

All together this is a perfect remote for any application.
