The European Philips Pronto RU940 is an enhancement of the RU890 with 2 megabytes of user memory. Unlike the US TSU2000, it does not include a preprogrammed database.

Strengths:Never fails a command or macro, it is an amazingly reliable and strong remote.
Totaly configurable touchscreen
Very good ergonomics (rounded form even keeps it on your lap)
Strongly built, withstood my infant kids for the last 3 years (!)
Even my un technical wife likes it, I need to say no more.
Weaknesses:Programming with ProntoEdit or Tonto can be hard for some people (great fun for others)Learning curve is steep though.

Not the newest on the market.

My batterypack lid broke quite soon, now has a piece of tape securing it.Could be a little more robust.
Review:This is a Classic. Today there are more powerful, color screened products, but this product still keeps up with competition and still qualifies as a damn good remote.
Today you find them on e/bay for 100$ or so. Therefore Value rating today is an overwhelming 5 (not the case 2 or 3 years ago)
I bought mine in 2001, payed full price and it\s been worth every cent.

Strengths:Easy to program and learns basically every remote
Weaknesses:battery , the standard battery died on my very quickly and need to replace it
Review:Love this remote , i found it for a bargin in the paper and i have used it constantly since i bought it . i control everything in stead of having 6 remotes .. i just use the pronto . I am always tweaking the screens to get the best setup !

Strengths:Physically durable product. I expected the screen to brake by now and its still holding up. Very functional and easy - once its programmed.
Weaknesses:Software is not easy to use or understand. So hard, that the sales person at SAMGOODIES makes money programming it for other people (copy/paste job). Thank goodness for this website
Review:Once you get a handle on how to use the software and download the codes, there is no end to its functionality. Everything you need to make it easy to understand (as far as usage) is doable.

Strengths:Customizable, Backlight, Can Learn Loads of Devices, Batteries seem to last a long time, plenty of configs to download, Relatively cheap compared to similar products.
Weaknesses:Poor Edit Software. No GIF or JPEG images. Only 4 levels of grey, Can take a long time to make good custom screens, massive download for Edit Software - 13MB!
Heavy, relatively cheap, but still expensive for Black & White only. No animation
Review:Useful as a database of remotes incase you loose any, but I have found it quicker to grab the original remote sometimes and have hardly used it for qutie some time now that the novelty has worn off. Still a cool gadget, but a bit unwieldy, though is does feel fairly robust. Good backlight. I would like to see support for other image formats, whay not GIF and PNG? The files would be so much smaller. I'd like animation too, even it was just some basic page by page animation. The Edit software is a bit of let down, though you get used to it's quirks after a while. I'd like a USB interface so it could recharge while plugged into the PC.

I think it is a bargain compared to the price of the color one. (£600? they're having a laugh!) But I can't help thinking a Handspring with the IR module would have been better value since you can do other stuff on it too.

I did manage to find some codes for equipment I didn't get a remote with which was cool. Now I have a remote control tape deck and radio. Gonna get some IR light switches too.

Cool, but Not Essential unless you have serious amount of equipment.

Strengths:Excellent product.
Everything can be configured and personalized.
Weaknesses:The backlight, sometime, change without any touch sequence.
Expensive, but excellent.
I've foundone time a bad System file which destroy my pronto, but a recover System file resolve this problem.
Editor only works with BMP (bitmap) file and not jpg and gif ...

Strengths:Unlimited capabilities
Weaknesses:Poor instructions. (Thank God for remotecentral.com)
Price a bit expensive
Review:Wow, this is an amazing piece of kit. Not only can you design it to your tastes, you can make it do whatever you want by pressing just one button, (handy for Parents who can't use remote controls).
This is a must buy.

Strengths:LCD Touchscreen, easy to use, backlight, 2 MB memory. Macros up to 255 commandos.
Weaknesses:In those 5 weeks I own the Pronto SBC RU 940 I can't find any weaknesses.
Review:Great universal remote that is easy to use and editable.
