Strengths:The remote will easily control all of my components.
Weaknesses:Back light does not come on automatically.
Review:Overall a competent remote, however, it lacks the customization ability that is necessary for a great remote.

Strengths:It is very easy to use and program. The touch screen is hand to have.
Weaknesses:I found that it was unable to learn every function of my remotes. I have a total of 6 remote controls from my TV, DVD, 2 VCRs, receiver (all Sony products) and my satellite receiver. Even with the AV-2000 remote, I found that I still needed the odd remote once in a while. I got fed up and returned the unit. I was not happy at all.
Review:Over all, I am not that impressed with the RM AV-2000. After reading some of these reviews, I think that the AV-2100 is a bit of an improvement. I think that I am going to save up and buy the Philips Pronto Intelligent remote control.

Strengths:Easy to program, easy to use, powerful enough to control almost anything you might need. The "hard buttons" for the different components are very welcome on a touchscreen remote.
Weaknesses:Two big things: you can't see anything without the backlight on, and you have to push a button to turn the backlight on. Also, you're stuck with the labels for each button that Sony gives you.
Review:The RM-AV2000 is a very easy way to get a lot of power set up for anyone to use, very quickly. It's one of the best things to just hand someone after you've set it up -- it's the proverbial remote that "the whole family can use."

If you keep to the simple stuff, it is a very instinctive and easy to use remote. It's when you start trying to get around its limitations, and start programming things on buttons with labels that say something else, that it starts getting difficult. And, you'll probably get to that point, since you can't control the labels, and there just aren't enough buttons to get everything done unless you resort to this kind of strategy.

So, this is a "maybe" remote -- "maybe" it can control everything you want controlled. As I said, if you keep it simple, fine. If you want to get complicated, you'll probably start looking for yet another remote.

Finally, I really appreciated the "hard buttons" on the remote, which are more plentiful than you'll find on most other touchscreen remotes. They helped avoid some of the inevitable "you've got to look at it and study it to figure out where the button is" syndrome that you get with a touchscreen remote.
