Strengths:I purchased this remote from Best Buy or Circuit City. I purchased it for around $60. I love the back light. I loved the way the buttons. I love the big display screen that comes with this remote.
Weaknesses:I do not like how the clock is not visible. I can not tell what time the clock has. It is hard to program the remote for DVD players. I have a Sanyo DVD and there is no codes for a Sanyo DVD player.
Review:Overall, I love this remote. It is comfortable and it has many features. I would recommend this remote to anyone. But there should be more codes developed for this remote.

Strengths:Looks good, feels good, strong IR signal, Backlight, learning ability, nice button feel
Weaknesses:Memory, Only 3 macro Keys, Backlight button is small and hard to find in the dark, VCR controls very difficult to use (on bottom of remote)
Review:Well, I purchased this one at Best Buy for $49.95. I wanted a remote that had learning ability and enough buttons to do what I had wanted. I owned a Cinema 7 and when I looked at this RCA, it looked like it had TONS more buttons, but when I counted, there were actually FEWER.

I ran out of memory once, but I was trying to program an entire remote into one of the slots. I aborted that plan and now I seem to have a bunch of memory left.

I wish this unit had more macro capability. I have already filled the three macros up and would like a couple of more, but that's ok.

I think that if I had it to do over again, I would have purchased the Radio Shack 1954 for $29.95, just for the backlight - it seems to have a little more memory and it can handle the cinema 7 advanced codes, so it would save a little on memory as well.

All in all, a good remote - it's the first one my wife uses without a fuss.

Strengths:Backlight, price, availability
Weaknesses:Manual, Tech Support, lack of memory, LCD
Review:Strengths - Unit has an excellent back light ability. For me its actually easier to read the button labels in the dark with the backlight than it is in bright room light. The price isn't too bad considering I was able to clear 7 remotes off the coffee table. I now have room for my feet (when the wife isn't home). I was considering the MX500 for about $100 more but this one got the job done and saved me the money (plus not having to wait for mail order to arrive). I was able to find this remote at just about every electronics store in town. Several of my components are RCA and that helped to save memory and eliminated a lot of the learning keys hassle. If you have 2 or more RCA components to control then I believe this unit would be a good choice for you.
Weaknesses - Attention RCA (and others)! It's not that difficult to write an understandable and usable owners manual. I know because I do it for a living. If your Technical Publications Department doesn't read/write English PLEASE subcontract the users manual to an American company. I can give you addresses for several publication houses that will do an excellent job. Likewise for your Tech Support listed in the manual. Kill that worthless 800 number which is nothing more that a voice mail loop and use the extra money to hire one of those publication firms I just talked about. With an understandable and useable manual you wouldn't need the 800 number. And for crying out loud negotiate a contract with a memory builder while the prices are down and give this unit more storage. It is also hard to read the LCD if you're holding it at any position other that the one "perfect" spot. Again, the backlighting makes it easier to read in the dark than in the light.
All in all I'm pleased with the remote even though I did have some trouble with it's weaknesses. Programming some of my components was a chore but I figure any brand has that problem. More memory would have allowed me to learn more of my Sony A/V receiver controls but I was able to get the ones used most.

Strengths:blue backlit, clock, LCD, learning functions
Weaknesses:very small amount of memory, very poor functions for my technics receiver (had to learn most of my needed features), no key remapping.
Review:I just pick this remote up yesterday at best buy so I'm kind of not used to it yet. When i first programed it for my tv, dvd, dish satellite receiver everything worked ok. The remote in dvd mode made me hit enter on the bottom of the keypad just under the 7 key. i'm not used to this i'm used to it being in the center of the arrow keys. Next was my receiver- crap this really pissed me off! It had absolutely no real useful function except adjust the volume and go into tuner mode, all of the keys were jacked, to go to cd mode i had to hit 0 instead of 1(cd) and had absolutely no surround control at the bottom of the remote. So after reprograming every function i needed for the receiver, whom friends probably can't figure out how to use this remote, i now am low on memory (damn that sux!) so I'm stuck with this half ass thing which is not a bad value considering i can still use all of my components w/ 1 remote and the features it includes i still recomend my trusty Sony RM-VL900.

Strengths:backlight
Weaknesses:Customer support
Owners manual
Review:I admit, only had it fo a day but my frustration has peaked. It runs RCA equipment fine but my Kenwood entertainment system is only half functional. My Magnavox DVD player, with only one code listed, is non-functional. I called the help line and was directed through a computer generated "programming your remote for idiots" menu. No apparent web page for support so I am borrowing a friends older book in case there are more helpful codes. Otherwise, it's back in the box and back to the store! Any help from the masses is welcome.... Email- JimDonati@cfl.rr.com

Strengths:Price, can hold in one hand, backlight
Weaknesses:LCD didplay, instruction manual, memory
Review:I've only just bought this remote so bear with me. I tried the RadioShack 15-1994 remote but it was horrible, couldnt handle the RCA DSS. This remote did what I wanted...it replaced my 4-5 other remotes for everyday use. For some reason it likes to classify Denon A/V receivers as AMP and not TUNER for the pre-prog codes. I've only had to learn 3-4 funtions up to now for my Toshiba TV, RCA DSS, Sony DVD, and Denon Receiver. For under $100 CAN...you cant beat that. For a better remote (HT master MX-500, SL9000, etc) you have to spend a lot more. Bang for the Buck this one is excellent.
