The Home Producer 8 is similar to the URC-8800 A/V Producer, but includes an RF basestation for through-the-walls control. It features a backlit keypad, macros and limited learning capabilities.

I thought this remote would work for me but it's not as good as it seams. it is a Learning remote that you can only learn 6 buttons. did not have support for my Sony Recever. will have to send back if I want the software installed insted of giving the users the software.

Strengths:
Nice shape, comfortable to hold while surfing.
Weaknesses:
Backlight bulb burned out, cannot find a replacement. No learning. Squishy feel to buttons, not a positive "click" feel. No way to re-label buttons. Weak RF. No responses to my emails to tech support.
Review:
I originally bought this remote to control a HT system where the equipment is seperated from my TV. The RF is too weak to carry through a floor from the home theatre to the AV closet above. With the squishy keys, it's hard to know if a command has been sent or not, especially with the weak RF. Not recommended. I wasted my money on this one. Now looking at either the Philips TSU 2000 or Neo TSU500. I'll end up using the Home Producer to control a smaller HT upstairs, only one room away from the equipment. Save your money for a real mainstream PROVEN product. Don't buy this remote.

Strengths:
RF to IR. Weak but an important feature. Probably the only real reason to own this remote.
Weaknesses:
No customer support. These people do not know what customer support is about. They do not understand problems when upgrading and internet skills are zero.
Review:
This remote is the best option for the dollor if you need the RF feature. There are many other remotes out there that perform other functions as well as htis one. If it were not for the jp1 ability and the great people that help in that area, this remote would not even be in hte house. Eight devices is enough for most and this unit gives you that.

Strengths:
RF works anywhere in house or outside in yard. Backlight nice, easy to program. NOTE: THERE ARE TWO VERSIONS OF THIS PRODUCT; One good, one bad. The Advanced Codes (not in manual) are great.
Weaknesses:
Can't use Learn commands in macros. Backlight does not stay on long enough. NOTE: THERE ARE TWO VERSIONS OF THIS PRODUCT; One good, one bad.
Review:
This is not a complete review but an addendum to other reviews. I have purchased two of these remotes and you must be careful as there seem to be two versions. One version although saying URC9800 on the box (and manual), and coming with a RF base-station, actually said URC8800 on the back of the remote. The other said URC9800B. It turns out that although the URC8800 remote itself was physically identical to the URC9800, the guts were different and the range was useless. I'm not sure whether the one I got was an anomaly or whether there was an older version of the product sold in volume. However, the new one is awesome and has excellent range allover my house and outside, and I have not had any problems with battery drain. Be careful when buying this remote on eBay or from discount places. I recommend you buy from somewhere that accepts returns in case you get the wrong version.
