Strengths:Large, illuminated buttons. Appears to have all controls that I needed, including the two most important to me: Skip Forward and Skip Back.

Tech support by English-speaking people.
Weaknesses:Doesn't work.
Review:From the listings on various sites, this looked like a perfect remote for me. It had enough devices, supposedly the right codes for my rig, and Learning Mode. Only trouble is, I can't get it to work, even after one try by a professional installer, one replacement unit, and three calls to tech suoport.

Only programming method which worked was number codes -- neither Method 1 or 3 worked, The number codes didn't give full control, and it wouldn't even go into Learning Mode, so it could only handle On and Off, Volume and Channel Up and Down, and (sometimes) Skip Forward and Back, but that was it. No input selection for the A/V, no direct number channel entry for the cable box, etc. Neither the "VCR" nor "Aux" buttons would accept my GoVideo DVDR/VCR, even though there is a code for it.

Tech Support has one good quality -- they speak good the English, but they are hostile and condescending. Their attitude is: "If you can't get this to work, you're an idiot." They even denied that when the unit Learns one command, it erases the previous commands on that button (and sometimes others) it has Learned -- a fact widely reported on the Web.

I finally gave up and bought a Harmony 700. It's not perfect -- small buttons, no labels, no ilummination, and it doesn't always work the first time. But getting it programmed is a breeze, and the Help key remedies any glitches.

The layout and buttons show that some good thought went into the WR7. I can't help thinking that there is or could be a good remote in there -- I just couldn't get it to come out and play.

Also owned:Logitech Harmony 720, One for All URC 4041
Strengths:"Light" button that lights up all buttons on remote when pressed. Good for dark rooms.
Quick set up method that doesn't require 3 digit codes - works on most devices.
Weaknesses:Couldn't find a way to access my DVR recordings on Dish VP722 DVR. Since I watch the majority of programs from DVR this is a major weakness for me.
Review:Since the WR7 remote got good reviews on many sites and was only around $20, I thought I'd give this a try when my Harmony 720 died recently. Using the quick set up method in the manual (no 3 digit codes needed - just point and start pressing a couple of buttons) I was able to connect my LG TV & Blu-Ray, and the Dish VP722 DVR. An older Phillips DVD player couldn't be connected either by the quick set up or entering the codes in the back of the manual.

I never could get the hang of programming the macros, and I fancy myself somewhat of a geek. But the biggest problem for me is that I couldn't find a way to access the DVR recordings on the Dish DVR. On the Dish remote there is a DVR button that accesses the recordings menu, but there isn't a way to access that menu through the regular Dish menu. This is a major drawback because we watch almost all of our Dish content through recordings rather than live TV. I don't know if there are other remotes on the market that do this, but this combined with not getting the macros to work turned me off of this remote.

For only $20 this wasn't such a big loss and I can see where it might be useful for people who only want to control a few items and not have anything too complex going on.
