DVD recorder
Announced at CES, Philips is releasing a new DVD Video Recorder based on the DVD+RW technology that provides full compatibility with existing DVD players and DVD-ROM equipped computers. The DVDR1000 features an AC-3 decoder/encoder for superious sound quality, plus an index screen that shows what's been recorded and how much space is left. The recorder even includes linear editing capabilities without the aid of a separate computer. Plus, the recorder is compatible with standard DVDs, CDs, CD-R and CD-RW discs and SVCD and VCD discs. The DVD+RW format provides 4.7 gigabytes of space per side, with up to 2 hours in DVD quality, 3 hours in SVHS quality and 4 hours in better-than-VHS quality. The DVDR1000 will be available in the second half of 2001 at an undisclosed price.

New SACD player
Philips' new SACD1000 features decoding of multiple standards, including multi-channel Super Audio CD with full Direct Stream Digital resolution on all six channels, DVD Video, VCD, CD, CD-R and CD-RW. The SACD1000 features a sand-blasted aluminum design and features the entire SACD functionality encapsulated in one single integrated circuit. The new model is available now for $1,999.

New High Definition satellite receiver
Introduced at CES 2001, the new Philips DSHD800 is a set-top box that receives both DirecTV and local off-air analog or ATSC high definition broadcasts. The DSHD800 plays back programs with up to 1080i resolution in 16:9 wide format. The new receiver supports DirecTV's Advanced Program Guide, which can be viewed in four different formats for easy navigation. Once programs are found users can pre-select up to 32 programs and have the receiver automatically switch to them when they begin. Finally, the new unit supports on-screen caller ID, Dolby Digital audio and MPEG stereo. Pricing and availability has not been set.

New internet shelf radio
Philips displayed their first Internet Radio mini-shelf system, the FM-i1000. The new system connects to the internet via a broadband connection and allows access to 1,000 of the internet's highest quality radio stations. All channels are accessible from the front panel of the system and can be categorized into genre, language or region and can display station name, plus the artist and title. On the audio side, the FM-i1000 includes 200 watts of power, a 3-CD changer, wOOx speaker technology, and can even be used as a playback device of MP3 files stored on a home PC. The iM Tuning service is provided free of charge. The system will be available this June.
