Yamaha  New Receivers Yamaha is upping it’s receiver offerings with the new flagship RX-V1 8-channel amplifier. It features Yamaha’s Dolby Digital/Matrix 6.1 and can be used with the latest Dolby Surround technologies and the DTS-ES 6.1-channel surround format. It includes a Burr-Brown PCM 1704 96kHz/24-bit DAC for all 10 channels and a prevision analog volume control. The new receiver delivers 110 watts to six full-range channels (front left/center/right and rear left/center/right) and 35 watts to Yamaha’s two proprietary front effects channels. For other external decoders, the RX-V1 features 6-channel analog inputs and also includes a RC-232C connector for interactive control by home control systems such as Panja, AMX, Crestron and others. Click to enlarge. (84kb) Yamaha’s exclusive DSPs are created using the YSS-910 44-bit IC. When combined with the YSS-918 for Dolby Digital and DTS decoding they deliver clarity, imaging and acoustic subtlety not possible before. In addition, a second YSS-910 incorporates digital speaker set-up functions to eliminate analog circuits after the D/A converter. The total number of surround programs has increased from 42 in the DSP-A1 to 54 in the RX-V1. A new digital volume control features an expanded range from 0dB to -99dB in 0.5dB steps. Although the device itself is digital, it is still controlling an analog signal. A new pre-programmed universal remote control is capable of learning up to 150 commands and features an LCD window, backlit keys and macros. The receiver features 13 analog and 7 optical digital inputs (4 of which also include coaxial digital connectors), all compatible with 96kHz signal. All video inputs are equipped with S-Video terminals as are the 2 video monitors. Component video inputs are also included. An AM/FM tuner with 40-preset stations is also included. The RX-V1 will be available in March 2000 for $3199. New Home Theater Components Yamaha recently released a single-disc DVD player. The DVD-S796 has a suggested retail price of $399 and plays DVDs, CDs, VCDs and provides optical output for Dolby Digital, DTS and PCM audio formats. It features Cinema Image and Cinema Dialogue for enhanced video and audio clarity. A new CD Recorder, the CDR-S1000, can finalize discs at 4X speed. It features analog and digital level controls, coaxial and optical digital inputs and outputs, automatic and manual track packing, a 24-bit D/A converter and a remote control. The suggested retail price is $599.
