Sony had one of the largest booths at CEDIA this year and displayed many items, including their new receiver and DVD player lineup, their 40" WEGA direct-view television, multimedia and CRT projectors, plasma screens and much more.
60" Grand WEGA
Sony's latest visual product is the 60" LCD rear projection Grand WEGA KF-60DX100. With a 16:9 aspect ratio, three wide XGA resolution (1366x768) LCD panels, 100 watt ultra high pressure lamp, superfine 0.155mm screen pitch, 3D digital comb filter and built-in Digital Reality Creation line doubler with reverse 3-2 pull down technology, the Grand WEGA produces a simply stunning image, as evidenced by the unit on display.
It includes dual HD component video inputs compatible with 1080i, 720p, 480p and 480i formats, dual television tuners, plus 3 S-Video ports, four A/V inputs and Control-S. On the audio side, it includes a 30 watt 3-way 6 speaker Virtual Dolby Surround system. The slim tabletop profile and relatively light weight of 132lb will make this a very attractive display for home theater. Availability is expected to be in January 2002 at a suggested retail price of $8000.
New satellite receivers
Revealed at CEDIA, Sony's new $249 SAT-A65 and $149 SAT-B65 improve on their existing DSS receiver lineup with an advanced program guide and DirecTV Interactive, allowing customers to search for programs using keywords and enable a timer for automatic reminders of up to 32 programs. The SAT-A65 upgrades the SAT-B65 with a sleek silver frame, Dolby Digital output and caller ID. The new receivers will be available this coming November.
Upgraded home theater projector
Finally, Sony is now shipping the $7999 VPL-VW11HT home theater projector. Upgrading but not replacing the VPL-VW10HT, the 11HT includes enhanced contrast ratios - double previous values - to render consistent black levels, even in low light operation. It also includes CineMotion 3:2 pulldown, longer life lamp and a whisper quiet fan. Incorporating three 1366 x 768 resolution 16:9 LCD panels, the unit produces 1000 ANSI lumens brightness and is ideal for table or ceiling mounting at only 17 pounds.
